This wedding photography checklist for Adelaide couples takes you from booking your team to backing up your gallery, with the South Australian details most checklists skip — summer heat, March's festival crowds, wine-region travel and west-facing sunsets. Work through it in order and your photos will be planned long before the day.
12–18 Months Before: Book Your Team
• Confirm your venue and date first.
• Decide on photo, video or both — booking one team now avoids adding video too late.
• Shortlist three to five teams and ask for full galleries and films.
• Ask about travel fees if your venue is in the Barossa, McLaren Vale or the Adelaide Hills.
• Read the contract carefully, then book.
Autumn Saturdays fill first. If your date is in March, remember it's festival season in the city and vintage in the wine regions — venues, accommodation and suppliers are in high demand.
6–9 Months Before: Engagement Shoot and Style
• Book your engagement shoot — included in every Honey Weddings Full Day Photo + Video Package.
• Choose a location that feels like you: a beach at sunset, the Hills, a city laneway.
• Agree on the look you want: documentary, editorial, film photos, colour and tone.
• Decide whether you'd like a first look.
3 Months Before: Locations, Heat and Light
Know your sunset time
Adelaide's sun sets around 8:25 pm in December and about 5:10 pm in June. Because the coast faces west, beach portraits at sunset put the sun over the water — plan a ten-minute sneak-out around it.
Plan for the heat
Summer days can pass 40 °C. Schedule portraits for late afternoon, choose shaded spots, keep water and a fan with the bridal party, and give guests shade during an outdoor ceremony.
Check permits
Some popular locations, including spots in the city and certain parks, need a booking or permit for wedding photography. Confirm before you build your timeline around them.
Map the travel
The Hills are about 30 minutes from the CBD, McLaren Vale around 45 and the Barossa roughly an hour. Add travel between ceremony, portraits and reception to your timeline — and to your coverage hours.
6–8 Weeks Before: Family List and Priorities
• Write your family photo list — ten to twelve groupings, in order.
• Choose a family member to help gather people.
• List the five to eight people or moments you most want captured.
• Confirm venue rules on flash, photographer positions and drones.
2–3 Weeks Before: Your Photography Run Sheet
| Time | Moment | Photography notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1:00 pm | Getting ready | Details first, then final touches |
| 3:00 pm | First look (optional) | Shaded, private spot |
| 4:00 pm | Ceremony | Shade or umbrellas for guests |
| 4:45 pm | Family photos | 20–30 minutes in the shade |
| 5:15 pm | Couple portraits | Among the vines as the heat drops |
| 6:30 pm | Reception entrance | Speeches, cake, first dance to follow |
| 8:00 pm | Golden-hour sneak-out | Last light over the vineyard |
The Week Before
• Put rings, invitation, perfume, jewellery and vow books in one box for your photographer.
• Send the final timeline, addresses and day-of contacts.

On the Day
• Eat breakfast and drink plenty of water, especially in summer.
• Hand the detail box to your photographer when they arrive.
• Let your family-photo helper run the list.
• Ask guests for an unplugged ceremony.
After the Wedding
• Download your full gallery as soon as it arrives.
• Back it up in at least two places, one of them offsite or in the cloud.
• Start your album design while the day is still fresh.
