Why We Include Film Photos in Every Wedding Package

If you’ve looked at our Full Day Package, you might have noticed something a little different: film photos are included as standard. Not as an optional extra. Not as an add-on for a few hundred dollars more. They’re part of every single wedding we shoot.

Here’s why.

It Started with a Love for the Craft

Before Honey Weddings existed, before the move from Brazil to Melbourne, before the first wedding booking — there was a deep love for photography in its purest form. Darlan’s journey started in portraiture, where slowing down and connecting with the subject was everything. When he picked up a film camera for the first time, it felt like coming home.

Digital photography is brilliant — it’s fast, reliable, and delivers beautiful results. But film forces you to slow down. There’s no checking the screen after every shot. No spray-and-pray. Every frame has to be intentional.

That intentionality changes the energy of the moment. When you’re shooting on film, you wait for the right light, the right expression, the right second. And the result is an image that feels less like a photograph and more like a memory.

What Film Adds to Your Gallery

Film images have a quality that’s hard to replicate digitally. The grain, the colour depth, the way highlights roll off softly — it gives your photos a warmth and texture that feels nostalgic and timeless.

When we deliver a wedding gallery, the digital images tell the story of your day in sharp, vivid detail. The film images sit alongside them as something quieter and more intimate — like the difference between watching a scene in a movie and remembering it in your mind.

We typically shoot one to two rolls of 35mm film throughout the day, focusing on the moments that suit the medium best: the getting ready details, quiet portraits, candid moments between the couple. These aren’t posed or planned — they emerge naturally as the day unfolds.

You Don’t Need to Understand Film to Love It

Some of our couples are photography enthusiasts who specifically ask about film stocks and processing. Others have never thought about analogue photography until they see their gallery. Both reactions end the same way: they fall in love with those film frames.

There’s something about seeing a photograph that was captured on actual film. It carries a weight that goes beyond pixels on a screen. Your parents will recognise that feeling. Your grandparents will recognise it. It bridges generations in a way that feels genuinely special.

Why Most Photographers Charge Extra (and Why We Don’t)

Film is not cheap. The rolls, the development, the scanning — it all adds up. That’s why most photographers who offer it treat it as a premium add-on, sometimes charging $300–$500 or more per roll.

We decided early on that we wanted film to be part of our standard offering, not a luxury extra. It’s built into our $4,500 Full Day Package alongside everything else — your engagement shoot, premium album, drone footage, and full wedding film. Because we believe the best version of your wedding gallery includes film, and we don’t think you should have to pay extra for it.

It’s About How Your Day Feels

At the end of the day, we include film because it aligns with who we are as a team. We’re not trying to capture a thousand perfectly sharp images. We’re trying to capture how your wedding day felt. And film, with all its beautiful imperfections, does that in a way nothing else can.
